FAQ
Q Why should I contribute to the Capital Campaign when I already pay school taxes?
A The James Buchanan Athletic Boosters Association, Inc. is working with the Tuscarora School District to supplement, not supplant, capital improvements that tax dollars cannot provide. If students are to continue to excel athletically, we must provide opportunities to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Q How will the Campaign initiatives complement the District’s current renovation plans?
A The Tuscarora School Board recently approved a comprehensive $17 million building renovation project, which will completely repair and update James Buchanan High School. The Fix JB Sports Capital Campaign is intended to provide additional athletic facility improvements, which are not included in the $17 million District-funded building project.
Q Who will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the new facilities?
A The maintenance and upkeep of the new facilities will be a combined effort between the Tuscarora School Board, the newly hired District Facilities Director, the JBHS Athletic Boosters, and the Endowment fund created in the Fix JB Sports Capital Campaign. Dr. Rebecca Erb and the Tuscarora School Board continue to support the efforts of the Fix JB Sports Capital Campaign.
Q Why should I contribute to the Capital Campaign when I no longer have children in school?
A The education of youth was considered such an important task by early American legislators that it was considered appropriate for the community to share the cost. It still is. A strong school is a strong community. The Capital Campaign will provide additional funds beyond the collective tax base. The Fix JB Sports Committee, under the umbrella of the James Buchanan Athletic Boosters Association, Inc., is working to enhance athletic and fitness opportunities for everyone in the Tuscarora School District.
Q May I give a gift “In Memory Of” or “In Honor Of” a friend or loved one?
A Yes. The Fix JB Sports Capital Campaign presents an excellent opportunity to give a gift “In Memory Of” or “In Honor Of” a loved one. Many parents and grandparents give a gift “In Honor Of” their children or grandchildren. It also is an excellent time to leave a legacy gift by “naming” a building or stadium structure to assure the family name will continue in perpetuity.
Q Who will manage and administer the Endowment Fund?
A Endowment Funds are often held in a separate bank or investment account from other Campaign and/or District resources. The James Buchanan Athletic Boosters Association Board of Directors will determine an appropriate manager from a pool of qualified and experienced applicants.
Q How will the Endowment Fund be used, principal vs. interest?
A All gifts designated to the Endowment Fund will be added to the principal. Only income and/or appreciation derived from the investment of these assets will be used each year to support upkeep of the facilities. These gifts will provide an ongoing stream of support for years to come.
